A clear, aware, relaxed mind can be
of great benefit in life. On this retreat we teach you methods of meditation to
help relax and calm your mind to develop the clarity needed to cope with the
difficulties of life. Meditation can be practiced by anyone, regardless of age
or belief. The Beginnerˇ¦s Retreat is designed for people who wish to learn
relaxation and Ch'an meditation (similar to Japanese Zen). No previous
meditation experience is required to join this retreat. However, you need to be
in good mental and physical health as the retreat is both mentally and
physically challenging. You need to have a healthy back as we sit with backs
unsupported.
We teach you the correct sitting postures for meditation and how to do basic
Chˇ¦an meditation. We do simple yoga, tai chi and Chinese exercises to condition
the body for meditation. Talks on Buddhism introduce participants to the ancient
Buddhist philosophy that originated in India 2600 years ago. You will also be
introduced to other Eastern Buddhist practices for transforming your life.
The meditation techniques help you to calm and tame the mind, resulting in
better health, stronger concentration, clearer focus, greater emotional
stability and greater ability to cope with the difficulties of life.
We do walking, sitting and lying Meditation. We teach relaxation meditation and
breath counting meditation. We also have a session of tea drinking meditation
and music meditation. Sitting sessions last between 15 and 30 minutes.
