Directions / Instructions to
the Nan Hua Temple In Brief:
1. Via Midrand / Pretoria
East (±113 km): Take the N1 motorway to Pretoria. At the Pietersburg / Warmbaths turn-off (±37 km), carry on with the N1 to Pietersburg. Next take the N4 turn-off to Witbank [145] (±22 km). Approximately 22 km before Bronkhorstspruit is the Diamond Hill Toll Plaza where you will be allowed to contribute R.24.00 to the future condition of the road you have just driven on. At Bronkhorstspruit take the second off-ramp [50] (±52 km). At the T-junction at the end of the off-ramp turn right to R25 Kempton Park / Delmas and right at Cultura Park (±1 km).
2. The Back-Road (±90
km): From Eastgate Shopping Centre take the N12 to Witbank. At Benoni take the Snake Rd. / Brakpan / Bunny Park off-ramp. At the traffic lights turn left. Carry on into Pretoria Road (M44) to Petit, straight on with R51 to Bapsfontein, straight on with R25 to Bronkhorstspruit. At Cultura Park turn left.
3. The Back Back-Road (±95
km):
From Eastgate Shopping Centre take the N12 to Witbank. Take R42 Delmas / Bronkhorstspruit off-ramp. At T-junction turn left. Carry on with R42 to Bronkhorstspruit. At T-junction R25 Kempton Park / R42 Bronkhorstspruit turn right. At Cultura Park turn left.
In Detail:
To make things easier one attempts to get onto the N1 going north, i.e. towards Pretoria. From getting onto the N1 to the Woodmead / Kelvin Interchange R55, it is about 26 km. Another 2 km further is the Buccleuch Interchange [104] with the Western By-pass. It will now be ±36 km to the Ou Johannesburgweg off-ramp M1/R101, which is also called the Verwoerdburg off-ramp [121]. Just after this off-ramp you have to stay towards the left-hand side of the motorway, i.e. as the highway widens to five lanes. Ensure that you are in one of the two left-hand lanes and carry on towards the left. Roughly 1 km further is the turnoff to Krugersdorp and Centurion Park. Krugersdorp at this point in time should not interest you particularly much, so keep going straight with the double lanes when this turnoff splits, so you are travelling towards Centurion Park. Once you have gone around the 270 degree bend across the motorway, you should still be on the N1, going in a somewhat easterly direction. (Sometimes one can confirm this by looking at the sun?) Now just carry on with the N1 which could eventually take you to Warmbaths. But since you don’t want to go to Warmbaths, keep a look out for a sign which displays a Witbank [145] turnoff to the left, after ±22 km. Once you get to that turnoff, it would be a good idea to take it. Once you have gone around the bend (in the road), you should be on the N4 going towards Bronkhorstspruit, Middelburg and Witbank. Bronkhorstspruit is now only about 52 km away. Now pay particular attention to the speed you are travelling at. Also, approximately 22 km before Bronkhorstspruit is the Diamond Hill Toll Plaza where you will be allowed to contribute R.24.00 to the future condition of the road you have just driven on. Once you approach Bronkhorstspruit you should be able to see the Nan Hua Temple / Guesthouse from the highway (i.e. from about 15 km away, ahead to the right). As you approach Bronkhorstspruit there will be two off-ramps. The first takes you to Ekandustria / Bronkhorstspruit West / Kempton Park. Keep going until you seem to have past the Temple (on the right hand side of the motorway) and then take the off-ramp marked Kempton Park / Groblersdal / Bronkhorstspruit East [50]. At the T-junction, at the end of the off-ramp, turn right towards Kempton Park / Delmas, to go across the motorway. After a mere 1 km you should see a sign displaying Cultura Park to the right, which is where you would want to turn off. If this sign does not appear, become acutely aware that you are possibly hopelessly lost. Please take out your cellphone and dial one of the contact numbers listed below, for new directions.
2. The Back-Road (±90
km): This is roughly where the eastern highway, the N12 to Witbank and R24 to the Johannesburg International Airport (previously better known as Jan Smuts Airport) start. Just less than 5 km after Eastgate Shopping Centre the R24 splits. The R24 continues to the left to the Johannesburg International Airport. Unless you have a plane to catch, ignore it and keep to the centre and right hand lanes. Take the N12 to Witbank to the right and continue up the hill, and keep going with it straight on (taking all the turns and bends as necessary) for about ±19 km. Then keep a look out for a sign which displays M45 Snake Road / Brakpan / Bunny Park. ±1.5 km further is this off-ramp. Unless you want to take the Back Back-Road (instructions under 3.), take this off-ramp towards Benoni / Rynfield. Another 100m further you will have driven past it. Unless you have a 4-wheel drive, it is probably better to refer to the instructions under 3. below. At the end of the off-ramp you should approach a T-junction. If you don’t , it is again better to keep going and refer to 3. below, then to try and turn around. (You have probably missed the off-ramp)! At the T-junction there are traffic lights, and you should strongly consider turning left towards Rynfield. [±63 km to your left is the Nan Hua Temple / Guesthouse] Carry on for about 1 km to a right bend in the road, and ensure that you follow the main flow, and don’t turn at the traffic light. This should take you into Pretoria Road, which is sometimes signposted as the M44 up to Petit (±8 km), after which it becomes the R51. This will eventually take you to Bapsfontein (another ±13 km), where you might want to stop at the big fourway-stop intersection. From this intersection on it becomes the R25. For the next ±41 km just follow this road up to a sign which displays Cultura Park on your left. You should now be able to see the Temple / Guest House on the left-hand side from the main road. If you don’t, you must now come to the profound realisation that you are hopelessly lost. Shame! Please get out you cellphone and dial one of the contact numbers listed below, for new directions.
3. The Back Back-Road (±95
km): This is roughly where the eastern highway, the N12 to Witbank and R24 to the Johannesburg International Airport (previously better known as Jan Smuts Airport) start. Just less than 5 km after Eastgate the R24 splits. The R24 continues to the left to Jan Smuts Airport. Unless you have a plane to catch, ignore it and keep to the centre and right hand lanes. Take the N12 to Witbank to the right and continue up the hill, and keep with it straight on (taking all the turns and bends as necessary) for about ±19 km. Then keep a look out for a sigh which displays Snake Road / Bunny Park. 500m further is this off-ramp. Acknowledge it for what it is, but otherwise ignore it. [±70.5 km down the road is the Nan Hua Temple / Guesthouse] Just carry on with the N12 highway to Witbank for another 37 km. Now keep a look out for a sign which displays R42 Delmas / Bronkhorstspruit. This one should be of special interest to you. If you manage to take this off-ramp, you will encounter a T-junction. At the T-junction it would be wise to turn left. You are now on the R42 towards Bronkhorstspruit. Keep going for more or less 30 km. Then you should stop at another T-junction. Straight ahead a sign should display R25 Kempton Park to the left, and R42 Bronkhorstspruit to the right. Please feel free to choose for yourself, but we recommend turning right. Another 2.5 km further on the left should be a sign which displays Cultura Park, and indeed the Temple / Guesthouse would be in view to your left. If not, shame! Please take out your cellphone and dial one of the contact numbers listed below, for new directions.
For when totally, absolutely and completely lost, dial: (013) 931-0009 Nan Hua Temple / Guesthouse, and ask for Peter, or 071 392-5258 (Peter).
